Most of them, I find, merely horrify. Job. <a href=\"http:\/\/memory.loc.gov\/cgi-bin\/query\/h?ammem\/papr:@field(NUMBER+@band(trmp+4177s1))\">Teddy Roosevelt<\/a> himself makes a cameo appearance as Protector of the great wader colonies, but the real stars of the show were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thanhouser.org\/tcocd\/\">Laurence Swinburne<\/a> as Audubon and two apparently once-famous child actors, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thanhouser.org\/tcocd\/\">Leland Benham<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0046108\/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm\">Helen Badgley<\/a>, the &#8220;Thanhouser Kidlet.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thanhouser.org\/images\/Helen_Badgley\/Helen-1wmb.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thanhouser.org\/images\/Helen_Badgley\/Helen-1wmb.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"407\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=hb0VAAAAYAAJ&amp;pg=PA484&amp;lpg=PA484&amp;dq=%22audubon+comes+at+night+and+takes+two+little+children+from+their+beds%22+bird-lore&amp;source=bl&amp;ots=9itbPimv4t&amp;sig=eeWGdtDzKtqqPO1CsuVqIZ5ZFW4&amp;hl=en&amp;sa=X&amp;ei=Vp9lUuusOoO28wSs3YEg&amp;sqi=2&amp;ved=0CC8Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&amp;q=%22audubon%20comes%20at%20night%20and%20takes%20two%20little%20children%20from%20their%20beds%22%20bird-lore&amp;f=false\"><em>Bird-Lore\u00a0<\/em>called the film &#8220;interesting and highly educational<\/a>,&#8221;\u00a0but it also sounds more than a little creepy:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Audubon comes at night and takes two little children from their beds&#8230;. at the end the children, standing at the Audubon monument in Trinity Cemetery, pledge loyalty to the birds and to the Audubon idea.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The stuff of nightmares, even 101\u00a0years on &#8212; and I thought so even before I saw the photo of Badgley.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scary movies are supposed to terrify.
