The creature was said to have been among the holdings of the <a href=\"https:\/\/collections.royalsociety.org\/DServe.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&amp;dsqApp=Archive&amp;dsqCmd=Show.tcl&amp;dsqDb=Persons&amp;dsqPos=0&amp;dsqSearch=%28%28text%29%3D%27bournon%27%29\">comte de Bournon<\/a>, at the time of his death three years earlier the director of the mineralogical cabinet of Louis XVIII.<\/p>\n<p>V found the animal to be 7 or 8 inches tall, &#8220;quite perfect in horns, coat, and every other which distinguishes the adult male bison.&#8221; And, unfortunately, an example of &#8220;the summit of the art of deception.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It appeared to me to have been grounded on a well-formed model of wood, very tightly covered, in the first instance, by the skin of a pug-dog of corresponding size, the long hair about the head, hunch, and belly being added with consummate skill from the skin of a young bear, while the horns and hoofs were formed out of the black horn of the buffalo.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A fake, yes, but &#8220;the <em>tout ensemble<\/em> so elegant&#8221; that V thought it entirely worth the price of 40 guineas set by Mr. Murray.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11057\" src=\"http:\/\/birdaz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Screen-Shot-2018-06-28-at-12.54.24-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"674\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"http:\/\/birdaz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Screen-Shot-2018-06-28-at-12.54.24-PM.png 674w, http:\/\/birdaz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Screen-Shot-2018-06-28-at-12.54.24-PM-300x195.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 674px) 100vw, 674px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Where is it now?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Inches, not feet.
