In 1891, when he was 26 years old, Cherrie discovered and described <a href=\"https:\/\/sora.unm.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/journals\/auk\/v008n01\/p0062-p0064.pdf\">a new species of\u00a0tanager<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.museocostarica.go.cr\/en_en\/zoolog-a\/ornitolog-a.html?Itemid=75\">collections of the Costa Rica National Museum<\/a>. The six specimens &#8211;which seem to be <a href=\"http:\/\/ecobiosis.museocostarica.go.cr\/especimenes\/Buscador.aspx\">no longer in San Jos\u00e9<\/a> &#8212; had been collected a few years earlier by none other than Jos\u00e9 C.
