I'm so glad you tallied up MY warbler! You all are sort of hogging the warblers and I'm trying to be a big girl about it. We did have an extremely lost ovenbird show up in someone's back yard this year, in Portland Oregon--fortunately at the home of a birder who knew what she had, and she contacted the Audubon Society and allowed her address to be distributed to interested parties. Which meant she hosted twenty or so birders every afternoon in her garden, where she set out lawn chairs and popped out with lemonade. It's a real nice town, but a bit warbler-shy.

Wow, when I first started reading this post and saw the name I thought you were going to tell us of yet another sub-species. What an amazing story of how this bird got it's name! As a person who is still learning her birds, (never mind the latin names) all these name changes can be a bit confusing, but I like hearing the history of language and words and even names. I was already used to the American Wigeon when I found an old bird guide of my grandfather's and found out it used to be called a "Bald Pate." Though wigeon may be more accurate scientifically, I kind of like the old descriptive name and now think of that species both ways! It's kind of like having a formal name and a nick-name I guess!

This all looks so lush and green and WET compared to AZ, as you well know. All these birds sound wonderful. I often here the calls of Ovenbirds from my sister's forested backyard in CT when I visit. I am still trying to learn all my eastern warblers and their calls, a daunting task at best! I was quite surprised when I lived in MA for 2 years to discover what you mentioned: that the birds are more at the forest edge and not in the deep woods. Very nice post!
