Bird of the Year: Ideas?
ByThis past year’s choice of the Evening Grosbeak as the ABA Bird of the Year was inspired (or lucky, or both).

Not only is it an indisputably cool bird with a fascinating natural and cultural history, but 2012 just happened to turn into the strongest “invasion year” in recent memory in eastern North America. Perfect timing.
What species would you like to see recognized in 2014?

Consider making it a Florida Grasshopper Sparrow. This subspecies is a critical risk of extinction.

Cerulean Warbler…
Cerulean Warbler is one of the species of highest concern in the eastern United States because of a small total population size and significant declines throughout its range.
