Today’s Big Surprise

By

And I do mean big.

You probably can’t tell (I can’t) from this abysmal photo (aren’t the pine needles in lovely focus?), but these are nine of the ten American White Pelicans that passed over us five astonished birders at Brigantine NWR this morning.

A scarce bird at any season in New Jersey, and a startling number. The flock passed Cape May two and a half hours later.

Other nice birds today: Red Fox Sparrow, Rusty Blackbird, Red-shouldered Hawk, 600 (!) Boat-tailed Grackles, and about 70 species more.

It’s nice to know nature can amaze us at any time or at any experience level! Great find!
