Gellert and I wandered the back yard a bit this fine, bright afternoon, filling our new water feature, sprinkling some millet beneath the “wildlife tree,” and generally trying to get a clearer sense of our neighborhood.
The birds were tolerant, and we got a close-up view of just how raggedy the local Northern Mockingbird is right now.
The bird will be sleek and dapper gray in a couple of weeks, but for now, it’s a molting mess.
