King of the Tyrants

The “favorites” game is a dangerous one, or maybe a generous one: there’s a different winner every day, sometimes several times a day. But for right now, I’m sticking with Sulphur-bellied Flycatcher as my favorite of all the big tyrannids.

This one was squealing away from the tip of a sycamore in Madera Canyon Saturday, the finishing touch on a classic morning of Madrean birding in southeast Arizona.
