Bizarre! Ruddy Duck x Goldeneye sp.?

The most frequent speculation offered thus far has been Bufflehead x goldeneye, which makes good sense to me; another friend has wondered about the possibility of a scaup parent, a compelling suggestion given the bird’s “scooped” bill.

I could certainly see that. It sits so low in the water though, that’s probably what reminds me most of Ruddy.
