Sweetwater This Tuesday
ByI’ll be leading a Tucson Audubon field trip to Sweetwater Wetlands this coming Tuesday, and hope to see some of you there. We’ll be assembling in the parking lot at the absurdly humane hour of 9:15 am (yes, that’ s a nine!), expecting to be out for about two hours.
In addition to the abundant waterfowl (I see Northern Shoveler, Cinnamon Teal, Mexican Duck, and Mallard in the photo), we should see good numbers of sparrows and raptors, along with a conservatively estimated zillion Orange-crowned and Audubon’s Warblers. Recent reports include Lawrence’s Goldfinch and Eastern Phoebe.

You make me miss Arizona! I lived in Mesa from 2003-2007, but was only into birding the last couple of years. Sweetwater Wetlands is a fantastic place to bird. I also miss the Gilbert Water Ranch and Boyce Thompson Arboretum. I used to spend my lunch hours at the Phoenix Botantical Garden enjoying the Verdin.
