I know some very fine journalists, but the newspapers (and their e-descendents) are my prime source for all sorts of nonsense. Get this one, from today’s Southampton Press:

“Hummingbirds, which the early Spanish explorers brought to the United States and called joyas voladores, or flying jewels…”

Gracias, conquistadores!

Gah! And their spelling (both in Spanish and in English) is about as credible as their history and biogeography…. Oh well, hug a conquistador today!
