MEGA: Possible Grayish Saltator in Arizona
ByA bird identified as a “potential” Grayish Saltator was described in detail from the Oro Blanco Mine, just below California Gulch, on August 31 (first made public today). The description of the bird’s appearance is to my mind compelling.
Grayish Saltator has moved into southern Sonora over the past several years and appears to be continuing its steady progress north, though this sighting represents a considerable expansion of the species’ range as currently understood in western Mexico.

WHOA! That’d be a great find. I hope it’s found again.

And I, of course, spent today in northern Sonora, where we had nice birding but no rarities or specialties–they seem to be all north of the border this year!
