MEGA: Jabiru in Mississippi
ByI’ve just seen diagnostic photos of a Jabiru taken in Isola, Mississippi. I am trying to find out whether the bird is still present and whether the fish ponds are accessible to the public.

Update: Local landowners have granted permission for birders to watch the ponds from the roads; the area covers several thousand acres, but birders will be best served by watching for concentrations of Wood Storks on ponds with a large fish die-off.

My husband, Terry Schiefer, Starkville, Mississippi, looked for the bird today for several hours without success. However, the bird could still be somewhere in the area. Catfish farmers there told him they saw it last on Monday, August 27.
