Red Dirt
October 27th, 2006 by Rick Wright
So it’s true what they say about Georgia dirt. It’s raining hard right now, and the sticky mud is robin’s-breast red.
With no books at hand, I have to quote Peterson from faulty memory about “an Eastern Phoebe so stained by red Georgia clay as to resemble [a Say's].” Not quite that bad here yet, but the Tufted Titmice and Carolina Chickadees are looking decidedly rosy after they land on the ground under Alison’s feeder!

This first-winter phoebe has stayed clean and dapper so far.
