The Martins Arrive

Purple Martin is among the last of our breeding birds to arrive each spring here in southeast Arizona, and one of the most eagerly anticipated. Summer starts officially today: a male was singing and soaring over the yard this morning, and any day now there should be swallow heads poking quizzically out of holes in saguaro trunks.
